Tate Liverpool is hosting its Capital of Culture exhibition, the DLA Piper Series: The Twentieth Century - How It Looked & How It Felt. Tate wanted a concept to link the three rooms but at the same time highlight the individual themes of abstraction and figuration. 50% of visitors will be ‘first timers’ with little knowledge of modern art. The brief included encouraging sales of the 100 page book.
We created a concept based on coloured lines, each representing a period of time during the century which would become an abstract design in its own right. The concept used colour codes throughout the exhibition, helping people navigate their way around the floors, linking easily with the section boards and labels, providing an easy, fun and accessible way of integrating the exhibition with the 100 year timeline. Visitor figures in 2008 were up 67% on the previous year. The work won a Roses Design Award in the exhibition design category.
"Glorious have captured the essence of Tate Liverpool’s major collection displays for the European Capital of Culture year, providing a striking and sensitive design."
